Amazing view!A huge waterfall in nature is outdoor onsen

This outdoor hot spring bath with a great view is actually part of a waterfall. It’s a kind of bath that is extremely rare in Japan.

The 20-meter high waterfall is a dynamic sight to behold. You can take a bath as an open-air bath because the hot spring is stored in the hollow at the bottom of the waterfall.

Visitors must wear a bathing suit to bathe here. During summer, a changing room is available, so you can change into your bathing suit after arriving. Note that there are no lockers available, so please take care of your valuables.

This place is most suitable for bathing from early July to mid-September. The water temperature can drop depending on the weather, so bathing during hot summer days is recommended. Since the place has an altitude of around 700 meters, it starts to get cold from mid-September onwards.

The onsen is a strongly acidic pH 1.41 spring that permeates with the smell of sulfur. You should avoid getting the hot spring water into your eyes. You should also remove any metallic accessories when bathing as they may become corroded.

There are 2 parking lots in the area. The parking lot near the waterfall is Oyutaki parking lot, it’s a 15-minute walk along a mountain path to the place.

For those who want to enjoy the scenery while strolling, please park at Kawarage Jigoku Parking Lot. It takes about 20 minutes on foot to Oyutaki parking lot.

If you plan to walk from Kawarage Jigoku, it’s safer to wear hiking shoes or boots. When you arrive at the waterfall, please change into comfortable shoes such as sandals you brought.

There are public toilets at both parking lots, and you should take a restroom break before heading to the hot spring. Note that there are no lights along the mountain path, and it can be dangerous to traverse in darkness, so you should go back to the parking lot before it gets too dark.

While its location may not be very convenient, this hot spring offers a rare experience in the middle of nature. Please prepare well and enjoy the best location like paradise.
