An onsen ryokan that is a great base for sightseeing

This onsen ryokan with a retro-modern atmosphere has a rare “gensen kakenagashi” free flowing hot spring. Gensen kakenagashi is 100% natural hot spring without any filtration or additives. It is located in Ureshino Onsen, a hot spring district in Saga Prefecture famed for its skin beautifying properties.

The current place opened in 2016 after renovating an old ryokan situated on the bank of the Ureshino River. It has a somewhat cute and charming atmosphere while retaining the traditional appearance of its previous incarnation. It is located in the middle of the Ureshino Onsen district, making it a good base for sightseeing in the area.

If you’re looking to stay in the area at a low cost, would rather choose your own food, and would like to go sightseeing at your own time and convenience, then this is the place for you.

The accommodation plans here basically do not include meals. Most guest rooms are Japanese-style rooms that can accommodate 1 to 4 people. There are also dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds for up to 8 people. The staff can communicate in Japanese, English, and Thai, making it a popular place for foreign tourists.

The onsen includes the “Genkai” and “Ariake” indoor baths which are separate for men and women, as well as a private bath that features a cypress wood bath tub. There is also the “Saikai” semi open-air bath which you can rent all to yourself with advance reservation. It’s great for families or other groups who want to enjoy a private bath time in a large bath.

The famous spring water of Ureshino Onsen is known for its skin cleanser-like quality which keeps visitors coming back. The slightly alkaline sodium bicarbonate hot spring removes sebum and dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and moisturized after a bath. Since the spring continuously flows from the source with no disinfection or re-circulation, you get to experience its natural quality directly.

There are a wide variety of food establishments nearby, so you shouldn’t have any problems looking for meals. Some of the foods you can try include onsen yudofu (tofu boiled in hot spring water), premium Saga beef, hamburg steak, Japanese tea, and local sweets.

For breakfast, you can take a 10-minute walk to the Sansui Global Inn sister hotel to enjoy a breakfast buffet. You can make a breakfast reservation at the reception desk of Kotobuki Global Inn. Just ask the friendly staff for details.
