Description

Enjoy a historic hot spring for beauty in a distinctive private bath

This traditional onsen ryokan is located in Tanoharu Onsen, around 5 minutes by car from the famous Kurokawa Onsen. It is surrounded by idyllic, nature-rich scenery, with fireflies flying about along the Tanoharu River during summer.

Tanoharu Onsen has a long history going back to its discovery in the end of the 12th century. The area flourished as a therapeutic hot spring in the Edo period. Ryokan Yunosako has two spring sources with a high flow volume in its premises. All of the baths are filled with 100% free-flowing springs.

If you have tattoos, you cannot use the communal indoor and open-air baths, but you can use the 3 private baths or stay in a separate cottage with attached onsen bath, where you can enjoy the natural hot spring as much as you want without inhibitions.

The slightly alkaline spring water with a bluish tinge is known as a “hot spring for beauty”. It is rich in metasilicic acid, a natural skin moisturizer, and has a quality similar to skin cleanser. You will feel your skin become smooth and slippery after a bath.

The ryokan has 3 types of private bath. There is the “Dosukoi-buro” which is shaped like a sumo dohyo ring, and the “Hotaru-no-Yu” open-air bath carved out from a large stone. There is also the “Matsunoki-buro”, an indoor bath tub carved from a 250-year old pine tree trunk. The distinctly designed baths have even been featured on TV. You can use them for free without reservation as long as they are vacant.

Note that “Dosukoi-buro” and “Hotaru-no-Yu” can be used from 7:00 to 23:00, while “Matsunoki-buro” can be used from 7:00 to 22:00.

If you want to enjoy the hot spring anytime you want as much as you want, you should stay in the separate cottage with attached bath. You can bathe in the “hot spring for beauty” 24 hours a day.

For dinner, you can enjoy the owner’s homecooking in a kaiseki course meal with dishes made from homegrown rice and vegetables and other local ingredients. It features both Japanese and Western dishes, including a baked pudding dessert that is popular with many guests.

This place lets you enjoy a refreshing onsen experience in the middle of nature that changes with the seasons. See the fresh verdure of spring, the magical fireflies during summer nights, the vibrant colors of autumn, or the starry night sky in the crisp winter air. Please enjoy a pleasant and relaxing trip.
