Description
A sento with a splendid tile painting of the Fifty-Three Stations of Tokaido
This traditional public bath house is situated in a quiet corner of a residential area.
It is located 15 minutes on foot from Kawasaki Station. The entrance is in a secluded alley, but it exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The reception counter is a traditional “bandai” desk. The changing room is filled with retro memorabilia, but has a clean, well-maintained atmosphere.
The bath uses only boiled water. The compact bath tub is separated into a shallow and a deep section.
The bath room wall features a mural of Mt. Fuji which is repainted and replaced regularly, keeping its colors vivid.
The partionining wall between the men’s and women’s bath features a tile painting that emulates Utagawa Hiroshige’s famous series of woodblock prints called “The Fifty-Three Stations of Tokaido”.
It not only adds a sense of depth to the bath room, but also gives bathers the heartwarming feeling of gazing at beautiful scenery.
