Description

A refreshing onsen lodge with a home-like warmth

This ryokan where you can enjoy a free-flowing hot spring and great local food is located on the foot of Mt. Kurikoma in Akita Prefecture. Mt. Kurikoma is a mountain straddling the borders of Akita, Iwate, and Miyagi, and is a popular spot for tourists and mountaineers.

The ryokan has 12 Japanese-style guest rooms with a clean and calm environment. It is also equipped with floor heating that makes use of the hot spring water, making even winter visits quite comfortable.

The spring source has a high temperature of 98℃. It flows to the bath tubs after being cooled to a more suitable temperature, but no water is added so you can enjoy its natural quality.

The bathing area features gender-separate indoor and open-air baths which lodging guests can enjoy 24 hours a day. If you prefer bathing in private, you can use one of the private baths. Both public and private baths can also be used by day trip guests.

There are 3 types of private bath: an indoor cypress wood bath, an indoor corktree wood bath, and an open-air bath. The indoor baths are drained after every use, while the open-air bath is filled from a continuous flow spring.

The onsen is mildly alkaline spring that is gentle on the skin but has a cleansing and exfoliating effect. It also warms your body to the core which is said to aid conception, leading it to be called “Kodakara-no-Yu” (a bath that blesses you with children).

The Japanese-style guest rooms come in 3 different types (A, B, and C). You can choose the type that fits your budget and group size. If you want to enjoy the onsen as much as you want in the privacy of your room, you can also choose a guest room with an attached indoor bath.

There are 2 guest rooms with an attached onsen bath. “Doutan” is a renovated maisonette-type room with a free-flowing wooden indoor bath. “Katsura” is a newer room that features a twin bed and a free-flowing ceramic indoor bath.

For dinner, you can savor countryside cuisine with seasonal wild vegetables and mushrooms, as well as homemade dishes made from select local ingredients, including Akitakomachi and Kodaimai rice, steamed iwana fish, Naniwa Udon, and Minase beef. You can also enjoy a large lineup of Japanese sake made in southern Akita Prefecture.

This place has reasonable accommodation fees even during peak seasons. It’s great for people looking to relax in the midst of nature or for tourists looking to enjoy the sights and activities in the area. You can spend a refreshing experience as if you were coming back to your hometown.
